What She Did: A gripping psychological thriller with an unforgettable twist by Alex Kane

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So, that prologue… Wham! What a fabulously powerful opening to draw you in to this intriguingly dark psychological thriller. Told from the points of view of Beth, Victoria and Lydia, and alternating between past and present, What She Did explores the lives of these three women, looking at the sensitive subjects of domestic abuse and misogyny, as well as betrayal when a person is at their most vulnerable, but gives us a clever slant on who really has control in their relationships. With each chapter the tension builds, pausing perfectly at a place where you are desperate to find out what comes next. Oh, that bathroom scene. No spoilers, but I swear to God my heart skipped a beat. There was a point (the phone!) where I said – as in actually said out loud – Oh, no, and closed my eyes. Definitely as slow swallow down the throat moment. I lived it, I swear. Superbly written.

The resolution is jaw-dropping. If you love your psych thriller edgy, chilling and brilliantly twisty, I highly recommend What She Did.
